What is Spedra?

Spedra is a new remedy for erection problems. The avanafil active ingredient is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor; a drug that promotes blood entering the penis. This medicine temporarily removes erection problems and makes it possible to have satisfactory sexual intercourse. Spedra acts faster than most pills: about 20 or 30 minutes after taking it, the user can already get an erection. So, it lets the couple enjoy sex more quickly and spontaneously.

Spedra is prescribed for erectile problems, also called impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED). When these problems are being suffered, the penis does not harden during sexual activity even if there is excitement. The cause: a disorder of blood flow that prevents enough blood getting to the penis. Spedra dilates blood vessels so that more blood goes to the corpora cavernosa of the penis and so the man can achieve a satisfactory erection.

During sexual stimulation, the body produces a substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) which relaxes the penile fitness. Blood vessels dilate and blood fills the corpora cavernosa along the member, producing the erection.

After a time, usually after orgasm, the body secretes the enzyme fosfodiestersasa type 5 (PDE5) to neutralise the cGMP and restore the penis to its original state of flaccidity. In the case of erectile dysfunction or male impotence, this enzyme acts too quickly, even before the erection occurs. Spedra blocks this enzyme so that the erectile muscle remains relaxed and allows blood flow to the penis longer.

Note that Spedra is not an aphrodisiac, so that sexual stimulation is required to achieve erection.

In 2013, the European Commission authorised the marketing of Spedra throughout the European Union to treat erectile dysfunction. Its active agent, avanafilo, was tested in over 3400 men for 12 weeks. Spedra results showed – compared with placebo trials- an improvement of erection and was sufficient for satisfactory sexual activity maintenance.

Although Spedra has not yet been directly compared to other pills for erectile dysfunction, information obtained on their results and side effects suggest that it is enough to be included in the lists of safe drugs from the European Medicines Agency.

Take the tablet Spedra half hour before sexual activity. This remedy for erectile dysfunction only works if there is sexual arousal. The drug works faster if taken on an empty stomach, but can also be taken before, during and after meals. If taken after meals, it may take longer to digest.
Spedra is available in tablets of 50 mg, 100 mg and 150 mg. The recommended starting dose is 100 mg, taken about 30 minutes before sexual activity. According to the effect obtained may increase or decrease the dose, but not more than once-daily. Diabetic patients aged 65 years or more, have no need to adjust the dose.

It must be the doctor who decides the appropriate concentration for you. Unless otherwise prescribed, the recommended dose is as follows:

Adults over 18 years: take 1 tablet of the prescribed concentration, half an hour before sexual activity. Maximum daily dose: 1 tablet.

Read the brochure and additional information on the dosage of this medicine.

The most common side effects observed in more than one in ten patients are headaches, fever and skin redness. Less frequently there is blurred vision or dizziness documented.

Most men can take Spedra smoothly without any problems. However, it is contraindicated if you take any nitrate medicine (used to treat angina pectoris, for example), suffers a heart injury or hypertension. Spedra is prescribed by a GP, so it is advisable to check with your doctor or pharmacist before buying Spedra.

Overall, Spedra is contraindicated in case of:

  • Circulatory serious heart problems,
  • Recent myocardial infarction or cardiovascular accident,
  • High or low blood pressure,
  • Liver failure or acute renal,
